Open bars are like the Teslas of weddings: Great in theory, but terrible when your Uber driver relies too much on the self-driving feature.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There are a lot of things weddings don\u2019t need<\/a>: A giant sign that says the service is unplugged (your officiant can make that announcement), \u201cAll The Single Ladies\u201d blasting during the bouquet toss (rude), and at the tippy top of that list, IMO, is a pricey, messy, open bar.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I know what you\u2019re thinking, but WWMSD (What Would Martha Stewart Do)? The hostess with the mostess would most certainly ensure her guests have as many glasses of oakiest Chardonnay as money can buy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Hmmm\u2026 Is that why Martha went to prison for insider trading? So she could afford all those open bars? You don\u2019t want to go to jail! You can barely pull off white, you think you can rock bright orange?!\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

You are not Martha Stewart. You have a budget! A quarter of my micro wedding\u2019s budget went to our 26 guests, who took \u201copen bar\u201d as a personal challenge and ordered whatever TF they wanted for four hours. That was money we could\u2019ve spent on\u2026 literally anything else.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As a wedding guest<\/a>, I\u2019ve had my fair share of indulging in open bars. Downing champagne, Savvy B, vodka sodas, and espresso martinis I definitely did not need like they were going out of style (but espresso martinis probably are soon<\/a>, right?). Thinking to myself, \u201cI deserve this!\u201d I bought this dress<\/a>, a plane ticket, a Dry Bar appointment, and a hotel room; the\u00a0<\/span>least\u00a0<\/span><\/em>the happy couple can do is not cut me off!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Until the next day\u2019s hangover kicks in, which now lasts two days (thank you, 30\u2019s), and I start to wish there wasn\u2019t an open bar<\/a>. Weddings are already stupidly expensive. Here\u2019s why if I were to get married again, I\u2019d cut my budget by cutting off my guests<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
