They were set up by their mutual friend Anastasia, who Alex had known since primary school, and Claudia met at work. \u201cIn the summer of 2014 Anastasia told me she knew the perfect guy for me,\u201d says Claudia. \u201cHe was about to move to France for his master\u2019s degree, though, and as I had previously been in a long-distance relationship, I didn\u2019t want to pursue another one. Photo: Genevi\u00e8ve Gigu\u00e8re Photography<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Alexander did return, was indeed single, and Anastasia then played matchmaker for her two friends. \u201cI had just come back from a business trip to New York when I received a text from Ana that Alex was back from France,\u201d says Claudia. \u201cHe had tickets to a play the following day, and thought of inviting me,\u201d says Claudia. \u201cI said yes, and we met at the restaurant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.philemonbar.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Phil\u00e9mon Bar<\/a> in Old Montreal before the play. We shared some wine and food, and then headed over to Theatre Centaur to watch the most amazing adaptation of Michel Tremblay\u2019s <em>Hosanna<\/em>. Photo: Genevi\u00e8ve Gigu\u00e8re Photography.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Claudia says from the night of their first date onwards, their relationship quickly, and beautifully evolved. \u201cWe always followed our hearts and openly talked about us and our plans together,\u201d she says. Photo: Genevi\u00e8ve Gigu\u00e8re Photography<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Though they were married in the micro-wedding era, an intimate celebration with just parents, siblings and closest friends was always the wedding plan for the couple\u2014they hosted just 35 guests. The venue was Claudia\u2019s parents\u2019 backyard, which they gave a dreamy garden-party setting. \u201cThe set-up of our party was a very special moment for us,\u201d says Claudia. \u201cWe were both very involved in the planning from the beginning, and we had a specific vision in mind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The colour palette for the day was soft and warm, with accents of off-white, green and pops of pastel blue and pink. The vibe was luxe, romantic and rustic, with touches of dark wood providing contrast to the softness of the flowers and decor. \u201cTruth be told, my dress was really the inspiration for the look and feel of the day,\u201d says Claudia. \u201cI bought it a month after the proposal and was totally inspired by the Regency-era stylings of it. As avid home cooks and restaurant-goers, Claudia said it was critical that their guests enjoy a delicious meal and drink amazing wine at their party. \u201cWe opted for a cocktail reception because we wanted it to be different and festive-feeling,\u201d says Claudia. \u201cThere was no formal seating, but enough seating for everyone to sit down and enjoy their meal. Alex is the co-founder of a private wine importation company called Deux Caves, so we had access to organic wines from France, Spain and Italy. Our caterer was also a friend and absolutely brought our vision to life! I loved how classic, elegant and romantic it was. It was the exact vision I had for our wedding day. As I love shopping online, it made sense to be looking for \u2018the one\u2019 online, rather than going wedding dress shopping, which was also not possible because of COVID. He started drawing cake mock-ups, figuring how big each tier would be, what flavour combination to go for. We wanted to <em>wow<\/em> our guests with something they had never tasted before. Everyone told us to try to fully enjoy the wedding and not to be so stuck in our head.
