Andrew Roby is a Washington DC-based event planner and founder of the National Events Council, which promotes greater equity in the events industry. He will speak about diversity, equity, and inclusion at the New Orleans-based Engage! Summit (June 6-9).<\/p>\n

Andrew Roby heads a Washington DC-based events planning company known for creating beautiful, customized weddings and other luxury events. He is also the founder of the National Events Council, which works to promote a more equitable culture in the events industry. He will be speaking on the topic of diversity, equity, and inclusion at the sold out Engage! Summit scheduled for June 6-9 in New Orleans.<\/p>\n

Roby started out with DC events but has expanded to offer event planning services in Dallas and Los Angeles<\/a>. His ingenuity, willingness to personalize the event to fit the client, and attention to detail have allowed him to win awards such as Bride\u2019s Magazine\u2019s \u201cTop Wedding Planner in America\u201d and Wedding Wire\u2019s \u201cCouple\u2019s Choice Award.\u201d He was also honored with Connect Corporate\u2019s \u201c40 under 40 Award\u201d for corporate event planners.<\/p>\n

In addition to running his event planning company, Roby is a leading voice for equity in the events space as the head of the National Events Council. In June, he will share his vision for greater equity in his industry at the Engage! Summit.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll be discussing how event professionals can use their influence to demonstrate to corporate clients why diversity, equity, and inclusion are paramount to the events they host,\u201d said Roby. \u201cIt\u2019s a push to move beyond the reflecting and evaluating how corporations perpetuate systematic racism into implementing ways to fix the disparities across the board.\u201d<\/p>\n

This is an ongoing push for Roby, who shared concerns with the \u201cNew York Times\u201d last year about the major obstacle of non-inclusive vendor lists. \u201cEvent venues often request, and sometimes require, that their clients use preferred vendor lists, but those lists rarely include companies owned by people of color. If venues expand their lists, it is usually within the same community and the cycle continues. Minority-owned companies are left wondering how they will ever make it onto these lists,\u201d said Roby.<\/p>\n

Roby hopes to create productive dialogue surrounding the glaring inequalities in the events industry as he addresses attendees at the Engage! Summit. Capped at 500, the audience has been described by Engage! as \u201cthe most esteemed and celebrated group of event experts in the world.\u201d Engage! Summits are held throughout the world, bringing together the best and brightest in the luxury events space to spark creativity, innovation, and collaboration.<\/p>\n
