Hollingsworth, according to a Florida Master Site File historic properties inventory form. Construction began in 1926, soon after the Bridge of Lions was started. The bank went under following the stock market crash of 1929, and the building was later acquired by the Exchange Bank (1939), the Atlantic Bank (1970), the First Union National Bank (1985), and was sold later that year to private investors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\"><strong class=\"gnt_ar_b_al\">24 Cathedral Place renovation:<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.staugustine.com\/story\/news\/local\/2022\/06\/14\/st-augustine-bank-building-tallest-city-could-become-hotel\/7620403001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-t-l=\":b|e|spike click:4|${u}\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">St. Augustine businessman plans to turn city&#8217;s tallest building into hotel<\/a><\/p>\n<aside aria-label=\"advertisement\" class=\"gnt_m gnt_x gnt_x__lbl gnt_x__al\"\/>\n<h2 class=\"gnt_ar_b_h2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"St_Augustines_tallest_building\"><\/span>St. Augustine&#8217;s tallest building<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">At eight stories high, the Mediterranean Revival-style building it is the tallest in St. Augustine, according to a Florida Master Site File historic properties inventory form. \u201cMediterranean elements include the clay tile hoods above the first-floor doors and windows, cast terra cotta ornamentation, stucco exterior, wrought iron-balconets, crenellated parapet and ceramic tile \u2026 The domed tower above consists of a row of Corinthian columns separated by a row of arched windows. Facing the Plaza de la Constituci\u00f3n, it is one of the city&#8217;s largest venues. The bar is located in the\u00a0original bank vault from 1927.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"gnt_ar_b_h2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Its_on_the_National_Register_of_Historic_Places\"><\/span>It&#8217;s on the National Register of Historic Places<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">According to the Treasury on the Plaza website, \u201cthroughout its history, the building has served as a space for art and cultural exhibits, historical shows, community gatherings, and as a symbol of prosperity for the city.\u201d The building is listed on The National Register of Historic Places in honor of both its &#8220;architectural and historical significance&#8221; to Northeast Florida.<\/p>\n<aside aria-label=\"advertisement\" class=\"gnt_m gnt_x gnt_x__lbl gnt_x__al\"\/>\n<h2 class=\"gnt_ar_b_h2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_building_still_has_many_of_its_original_features\"><\/span>The building still has many of its original features<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Wells Fargo bank occupied The Treasury building until 2013, when it moved across the Plaza de la Constitucion into the old Woolworth building, according to the Treasury on the Plaza website.
