Lucas Adams is out as Tripp, marking the second time he\u2019s been written off of DAYS, which makes the move a lot easier. \u201cI was definitely more prepared for it,\u201d admits the actor, noting that the news both \u201csurprised\u201d and \u201cdidn\u2019t surprise\u201d him at the same time.<\/p>\n
\u201cI didn\u2019t know where my character was going, especially when [the Allie\/Tripp\/Chanel triangle] was over,\u201d Adams explains. \u201cAnd Tripp was mostly the third wheel, so it totally made sense story-line-wise. But it did surprise me, because we just had that whole storyline of Tripp dying and being brought back [to life]. I guess Tripp is not someone who sticks around all the time. He needs to stretch his wings every now and then.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fortunately for Adams and viewers, he\u2019ll get to do just that in the upcoming Peacock special, DAYS: BEYOND SALEM. The actor was approached about participating in the spin-off shortly after wrapping things up on the main soap. \u201cThat was a big surprise. I hadn\u2019t even thought about it,\u201d says Adams. \u201cIt was only a couple of months after I ended DAYS, so it was like I never really left. I was really excited, because I love everybody there. I was pumped to get to come back.\u201d<\/p>\n
Yet the experience was somewhat different. \u201cPeacock is so much bigger, and there\u2019s a lot of stuff going on,\u201d notes Adams, who was particularly impressed by the larger and more elaborate sets. \u201cIt\u2019s a whole new ballgame, and it was really fun.\u201d<\/p>\n
Reflecting back on his DAYS run, Adams enjoyed his role in the Allie\/Chanel\/Tripp triangle, despite having it end with his character being the odd man out. \u201cIt\u2019s something that has happened to Tripp a lot and he\u2019s getting used to, or at least I am,\u201d contends Adams with a laugh. \u201cThat\u2019s just Tripp\u2019s life. I think he realizes he shouldn\u2019t accept that and it\u2019s one of the reasons he\u2019s leaving.\u201d<\/p>\n
Part of the story\u2019s appeal was working with Lindsay Arnold (Allie) and Raven Bowens (Chanel). \u201cIt was so much fun to bounce off the two of them, and we had great chemistry,\u201d he says, adding that it was also a relatable plot. \u201cEverybody\u2019s been through relationship ups and downs. I had a relationship that was similar to that at one point in my life. It was [a girlfriend] liking another guy kind of thing, but it was the same story.\u201d<\/p>\n
Adams is thankful that Tripp got to go out the hero, thanks to his character jumping out St. Luke\u2019s window to save Allie. \u201cIn full Exorcist<\/i> [mode],\u201d he quips. \u201cI was totally excited. I wish they would have actually let me jump out the window, but that was a no-go, although I did my best selling it. They did an amazing job and it looked awesome.\u201d As for getting to briefly play Satan, Adams shares, \u201cI was also excited to put the contacts in. I had such a blast. I wanted to be the devil for so much longer.\u201d<\/p>\n
Since leaving DAYS, Adams has been keeping busy. \u201cI\u2019ve been auditioning as much as I can, and Shelby [Wulfert] and I have been planning our wedding,\u201d reports the actor. \u201cThat\u2019s been taking up a lot of our time. It will be October 15, which is coming up pretty soon, and in Texas. She already has her dress. We\u2019re figuring out everything that\u2019s going on. We\u2019re doing a very small, micro wedding with just our family and stuff. Very intimate-style.<\/p>\n
\u201cOther than that, my best friend [Joey Bragg] and I have been writing a comic book for the last year-and-a-half,\u201d he continues. \u201cWe started during quarantine. We\u2019re working on getting that off the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n
Although he\u2019s not currently in Salem, Adams hasn\u2019t lost touch with his co-stars. In fact, he keeps in touch with most of them. \u201cI still hang out with Lindsay and Raven,\u201d he says. \u201cWhen Lindsay got nominated [for an Emmy], we all went out and had a meal. Victoria [Konefal, Ciara] was there.\u201d<\/p>\n
And during his last episodes on the soap, Adams received lots of encouragement from veteran castmates Tamara Braun (Ava), Mary Beth Evans (Kayla) and Stephen Nichols (Steve). \u201cThey were like, \u2018You didn\u2019t die. You\u2019ll be back.\u2019 They\u2019ve been in the ballgame a long time. They\u2019ve seen people come and go. They\u2019ve come and went. They know how it works. They kept telling me I\u2019d be back or would be too busy to come back. I hope so.\u201d<\/p>\n
