A bride has shared how she spent just a third of the average spend on weddings<\/a> for her big day.<\/p>\n

By opting for budget-trimmers like a \u00a3325 designer wedding dress and \u00a34.60 evening gown, Grace Evans and groom Jamie Wilkins were able to pay just \u00a36,950 for their wedding.<\/p>\n

Compared to the UK average of \u00a320,493, according to the Compare Wedding Insurance website, that\u2019s pretty impressive.<\/p>\n

Grace, who loves second-hand and vintage clothes, spent \u00a3325 on her Justin Alexander wedding dress, which she bought from eBay.<\/p>\n

She said: \u2018The lady I bought it off originally paid \u00a31,795.<\/p>\n

\u2018Luckily, she lived locally in Gloucestershire so, before I actually bid on it, I went over, and she let me try it on. It fit perfectly.\u2019<\/p>\n

Her wedding slippers and evening dress were also from eBay, with her Rainbow Club shoes costing \u00a315 and the garment just \u00a34.60.<\/p>\n

Grace, 30, and Jamie, 31, also opted for a small wedding on September 8, 2021, tying the knot at exclusive Cotswold venue Pauntley Court, which has its own Norman church, in front of 24 guests.<\/p>\n

Grace, of Worcester, was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, which affects muscle and soft tissue, in 2017 and does not work.<\/p>\n

She said: \u2018I\u2019ve only got a certain amount of capacity and obviously, getting married for anybody is really stressful and busy.<\/p>\n

\u2018We decided that we were just going to have a micro wedding and make it a lot easier.<\/p>\n

\u2018For my health, only having a small wedding was less draining. I think when you\u2019re feeling really ill and poorly and then you\u2019ve got to be around 100 people, it\u2019s too much.<\/p>\n

\u2018Covid made us realise our priorities, and it was for our grandparents to see us get married and for everyone to feel safe. They are elderly, so a micro wedding was perfect.\u2019<\/p>\n

She added: \u2018The fact it was just my closest family and closest friends who know me really well, was really special.\u2019<\/p>\n

The couple\u2019s wedding rings were bought at a shop\u2019s closing down sale for half the retail value \u2013 with Grace\u2019s costing \u00a3500 and archaeologist James\u2019 \u00a3250.<\/p>\n

Keeping in mind wedding cakes can cost around \u00a3200, the couple spent a mere \u00a335 on theirs, using\u00a0a \u00a315 M&S cake and two cakes from a local caf\u00e9, which cost \u00a310 each.<\/p>\n

They then decorated the cake with roses from Grace\u2019s mum and grandad\u2019s gardens \u2013 with additional petals turned into confetti.<\/p>\n

Grace said: \u2018I had enough confetti for 100 people, but we obviously only had 24 guests in the end.<\/p>\n

\u2018I\u2019m giving the rest to my friend who\u2019s getting married in May.\u2019 <\/p>\n

Jamie\u2019s family pitched in to help too, his mum Avril, 73 and eldest sister Jo, 54, decorating the church with lilies, roses and gypsophila. <\/p>\n

Grace\u2019s sister Georgina, 33, made the couple raspberry and chocolate brownies as their favours, and her mum Karen, 58, made Grace a garter using lace bought from Amazon, elastic and a \u2018little blue ribbon\u2019 she had at home.<\/p>\n

Grace and Jamie made the wedding bouquets and buttonholes for the flowers with the help of YouTube tutorials.<\/p>\n

\u2018It could have cost \u00a335 if bought from Etsy, but she made it for \u00a35,\u2019 said Grace, who also used her mum\u2019s 1920s bag as her \u2018something old\u2019 and \u2018something borrowed\u2019.<\/p>\n

She added: \u2018Two of my friends \u2013 Rosie and Miriam, both 30, were bridesmaids. They wore multiway dresses that cost \u00a325 instead of \u00a3110 from a Coast sale.<\/p>\n

\u2018My cousin, Nina, 32, was also a bridesmaid and wore the duskiest pink dress. Hers was Oasis and she got it from TK Maxx for \u00a311. I think it was originally \u00a395.<\/p>\n

\u2018I just looked through all the sales, keeping in mind which dress would suit which friend.<\/p>\n

\u2018I got some pretty night robes from Primark. They\u2019re cream and green and beautiful. And, instead of being \u00a314 each, they were on sale for \u00a37.\u2019<\/p>\n

The couple also intentionally opted to get married on a weekday to save money.<\/p>\n

Make no mistake, budget or not, Grace spent a lot of time planning.<\/p>\n

She said: \u2018I just made a list using Google of all the main things you need for a wedding, like flowers, cakes, all those sorts of things, so I had a rough idea of what I needed.<\/p>\n

\u2018And I kept a note of everything I had, needed to get and what I\u2019d spent as I went along.\u2019<\/p>\n
