After hanging out at a work event, Yuxi and Kevin became fast friends. Yuxi describes those early days of their secret work romance as a classic game of cat and mouse, with one chasing the other. Photo: Eliot Kim<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This was back in the early 2010s. \u201cIt was an exciting time for the Toronto food scene, which made for great excuses for us to meet up and explore new spots,\u201d says Yuxi. \u201cOur restaurant meet-ups became increasingly more frequent, and organically morphed into us formally dating.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Over the course of seven years, this foodie couple\u2019s relationship blossomed and they became an inseparable duo. Kevin <a href=\"https:\/\/thekit.ca\/weddings\/proposal-stories-canadian-couples\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">proposed<\/a> during the pandemic in the fall of 2021. Yuxi describes the proposal as a private and incredibly special moment between just the two of them. Photo: Eliot Kim<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe wanted to host our wedding at an intimate restaurant in the city,\u201d says Yuxi. \u201cWe didn\u2019t have a particular style in mind for our wedding, so we looked for spaces with an interesting interior and open-plan layout. Photo: Eliot Kim<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Since the venue was already colourful, the couple was mindful of keeping their decor elements simple, so as not to take away from the space and design of it,\u201d says Yuxi. Photo: Eliot Kim<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The couple hosted 40 guests for their wedding, a joyful and relaxed day brimming with great food, their favourite people and amazing tunes. Photo: Eliot Kim<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The couple\u2019s choice of having a friend as their wedding officiant reflected their wish to keep their wedding day highly personal. Many of the details for their day were DIY. Yuxi arranged the flowers; Kevin built the pedestal displays for the main floral arrangements, which were housed in two of the couple\u2019s own large serving bowls. Photo: Eliot Kim<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cKevin began compiling a playlist of love-themed songs, which he then arranged to match the progression of our wedding, from guest arrival all the way through to some late-night dancing,\u201d says Yuxi. \u201cOur taste in music is broad, from retro soul and R&amp;B to Japanese city pop. Everything worked together so well and was an ultra-special touch.
