\n Lion Quays resort\u00a0in Oswestry offers a spa, wedding venue and lakeside views – but how is the food?\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n After a scenic walk with my parents along the Llangollen Canal, a hefty pub dinner was definitely well deserved.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n Located just 10 drive minutes away from the Pontcyllte Aqueduct in Llangollen we headed\u00a0over to the Lion Quays.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n I was familiar with the venue having attended a wedding there in December of 2021, however, had not tried the food in the Waterside Restaurant.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n We did not have a reservation and were pleased to find that, despite it being a Sunday around 4.30pm, there were plenty of tables both inside and outside.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n As Bella the dog was joining, we chose to sit outside which allowed us to enjoy the views of the Oswestry Waterways.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n The restaurant has a range of menus including a day time from 11am-5.30pm, evening from 5.30pm to 9.30pm, dessert menu and the menu for a Sunday.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n As someone that doesn’t particularly enjoy roast dinners unless it’s cooked at home, or around Christmas, I was pleased to find the Sunday menu contained a range of choices from steak, calzone, burgers, curry and fish and chips.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n Of course the menu also\u00a0offered the traditional roast dinner option.\n<\/p>\n

\n I chose to get the slow cooked steak and ale pie which came with triple cooked chips, mushy peas and roast gravy.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n The chips were the star\u00a0of this dish for me as they were perfectly crispy on the outside whilst remaining soft inside.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n I enjoyed the pie as the steak was very tender and flavoursome.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n Although the plate was very aesthetically pleasing it did make it quite difficult to eat as the puff pastry was particularly flaky and getting the gravy onto the chips and pie without a mess was challenging.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n The peas and gravy were great accompaniments and helped to balance out the flavours of the dish.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n Sitting outside to eat a flaky puff pastry pie was perhaps not the best idea for me, however, my dog Bella certainly enjoyed eating any pieces which fell to the floor.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n As we were very hungry following the walk we also selected some sides to share.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n The tapas platter contained crispy tiger prawns, padron peppers and two spanish meatballs.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n The prawns were very tasty and the padron peppers were cooked to perfection however I found the meatballs slightly chewy.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n I would recommend this dish for two people ordering as sharing two items between three could be a cause for contention even for\u00a0the closest of friends.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n As a self-professed truffle addict, I can confess that if I ever see it on the menu it’s almost definitely one of my choices.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n The truffle mac and cheese was delicious and was heavily packed with the truffle flavour.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n For \u00a35 I feel it was a generous portion and could even be chosen as a main if paired with a starter or another side.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n The service in the restaurant was very efficient and quick and we were served our food in a timely manner.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n Overall, it was an enjoyable meal with good food and great service that I would highly recommend\u00a0after exploring the Chirk and Llangollen region.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
