{"id":9086,"date":"2023-09-27T10:35:00","date_gmt":"2023-09-27T14:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/espacestudio.ca\/love-in-the-air-st-kitts-sets-focus-on-romance\/"},"modified":"2023-09-27T10:35:00","modified_gmt":"2023-09-27T14:35:00","slug":"love-in-the-air-st-kitts-sets-focus-on-romance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/espacestudio.ca\/en\/love-in-the-air-st-kitts-sets-focus-on-romance\/","title":{"rendered":"Love in the Air: St. Kitts Sets Focus on Romance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"align-items-center d-flex mb-4\">\n<div class=\"author-credits-info\"><span class=\"by-author\">by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.travelpulse.ca\/bio\/marsha-mowers\" title=\"Marsha Mowers\" class=\"author-name\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marsha Mowers<\/a><br \/><\/span> <span class=\"last-updated m-0\">Last updated: 10:35 AM ET, Wed September 27, 2023<\/span><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<p>There\u2019s a \u201cwedding boom\u201d happening and St. Kitts wants to be in on it.<\/p>\n<p>The island\u2019s Minister of Tourism Marsha Tamika Henderson, Ellison \u2018Tommy\u2019 Thompson, CEO, and Melnecia Marshall, Deputy CEO from the St. Kitts Tourism Authority joined a group of travel advisors for a romance-themed event last night in Toronto.\u00a0 The event was hosted by Alison McGill, Canada\u2019s foremost authority on the romance industry.<\/p>\n<p>With romance considered one of the fastest-growing sectors coming out of the pandemic, the first-of-its-kind collaboration with McGill is a strategic move for the destination, helping it tap into her network and amplify the message that St. Kitts is tailor-made for romance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are calling it the wedding boom in the industry and it\u2019s going right until 2025 at least,\u201d McGill tells TravelPulse Canada. \u201cAny wedding vendor would probably tell you last year was the busiest, craziest year they ever had; a lot of them even burned out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s now a backup of people who wanted to have that wedding they couldn&#8217;t have in COVID, or they were having the second wedding because they had a micro wedding, then there&#8217;s also new people getting engaged. It\u2019s created this whole sort of cluster that\u2019s just being pushed along.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a great time for the industry, because it&#8217;s very, very busy.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure>\n<div class=\"inline-image-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/espacestudio.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Love-in-the-Air-St-Kitts-Sets-Focus-on-Romance.png?w=1300&#038;ssl=1\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"img-fluid\" alt=\"St. Kitts\" title=\"St. Kitts\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The evening featured a bridal fashion show, hosted by Alison McGill<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Canada is a key market for St. Kitts tourism, which last year saw a 500% increase in visitors despite pandemic-related travel restrictions. Thompson says that\u2019s because the destination offers authenticity, relaxation, and adventure for honeymooners.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s authenticity in the destination, and I think honeymooners in particular can come and do a number of things,\u201d says Thompson. \u201cThe destination is relatively new to tourism. It\u2019s not over developed, it&#8217;s still in its natural state. We have the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>International lift has also increased, with Air Canada now flying direct twice a week and the island is served by US based airlines including year-round service from JetBlue.<\/p>\n<p>The island is also seeing great inter-connectivity with other Caribbean destinations, something that was a hot topic at the CTO (Caribbean Tourism Organization) annual summit in 2022. St. Kitts is positioned almost as a two-for-one with is sister island Nevis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are consistently working on improving lifts and interconnectivity in the region,\u201d Henderson tells TravelPulse Canada. \u201cNevis is just five minutes away, and then you have our other sister Caribbean islands such as Anguilla, Trinidad, St. Maarten, Antigua and Barbados for example, so for a couple who\u2019s doing a destination wedding, they can also honeymoon on another island.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>St. Kitts is expecting about 12 inaugural calls this season, which Thompson says is extremely important to the local economy whose many entrepreneurs rely heavily on it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat&#8217;s significant is that even though we&#8217;re getting the same amount of calls, we&#8217;re getting ships with more capacity. They&#8217;re bigger ships and they\u2019re higher end ships, so for us, it&#8217;s more quality than quantity.
