Toronto Street business has been in operation since 2004 and their ‘passion’ is creating unique, custom desserts

If you can picture it in your mind, Jennifer Mayrl and her crew will make your food creation a reality.

Cakes By Design, located in downtown Barrie on Toronto Street, has been satisfying the sweet tooth of area residents since 2004.

“If you can dream it, we can bake it,” Mayrl tells BarrieToday. “At Cakes By Design, our passion is creating unique and custom desserts to delight and enhance our customer’s personal experience.”

The 100 per cent peanut and tree nut-free kitchen kicks out wedding cakes that can range in sizes for smaller gatherings or ones that could feed hundreds of people.

“Our cake designers use various ingredients and tools to create a cake that will reflect your personality and wedding theme,” she says. “We work with fondant, gum paste, buttercream, chocolate and many more popular ingredients.”

Each cake can be decorated with real flowers, sugar-frosted flowers, icing lace, ribbons, bows or loads of other customized wedding decorations, Mayrl adds.

“We can create delicious and interesting cakes just by adding a fabulous filling,” she says. “Clients can choose from decadent, fruit or cream fillings that lay snuggled between layers of cake.

“A delightful selection of icings offers an ornate and elegant look, including our popular vanilla and chocolate butter cream, vanilla whipped chocolate fudge and cream cheese.”

Some of the other flavours up for grabs are pretty much to die for.

Fruit fillings include cherry, mango, raspberry, strawberry, blueberry and lemon. While cream filling offering include white chocolate, raspberry, key lime, Irish cream, caramel, chocolate, lemon, orange, mocha, banana, strawberry, and coconut.

It’s not all about special wedding cakes, however.

How about a special cupcake for that special someone?

“Custom cupcakes have become quite trendy,” says Mayrl. “They might be buttercream or fondant covered and perhaps a character or movie-inspired, sprinkled, or set up on a gorgeous tiered wedding service. They might be chocolate, red velvet, vanilla or one of our over 30 other flavours.”

If donuts are your weakness, Cakes by Design has the ever-tasty plain glazed Donut and then there are the decadent donuts- decorated but there is still a hole in the middle  along with gourmet donuts: holes filled and topped.
