This Couple’s Intimate Autumn Wedding Is Pure Romance
The moment Gabriela Fournier and Frédéric Saleh met at the office, they knew they were destined to be more than just colleagues. The two were both working for a Montreal construction company and, though they worked on separate projects, they shared a common workspace with their desks arranged across from each other.
“During our first casual conversation, something clicked for us,” says Gabriela. “Fred asked me out, and we went to a pizzeria in the Old Port of Montreal. Then we walked around downtown all evening. He ended up taking me by the building he was currently working on, which was lit up all night. For two engineers, this was wildly romantic!”
In 2018, after five years of dating, Fred proposed to Gabriela on a three-week backpacking trip through Vietnam and Thailand. Fred knew he was going to ask Gabriela to marry him, he just didn’t know where or when. The perfect moment presented itself on a sunny day in Sapa on the top of Mount Fansipan, the tallest mountain in the region. “We climbed 650 stairs and there was a secluded temple a few metres from the mountain peak where Fred popped the question. In that moment, we were above the clouds, literally and figuratively speaking,” says Gabriela with a smile.
Their wedding day arrived in September 2020, when they hosted 15 guests for a micro wedding at Manoir Hovey, a stately Relais & Châteaux property in picturesque North Hatley, Que. “The location influenced so many details of the day,” says Gabriela. “The fall foliage, manicured gardens and beautiful views of Lake Massawippi [created] a fairytale setting.”
The mood board for the couple’s celebration featured a classically luxe combo of white and gold. “We kept things simple by choosing white flowers and white decor because we wanted our guests to be the standout detail of our day,” says Gabriela. “We were very fortunate to be able to celebrate our wedding during a very difficult time, and it was our guests’ laughter and love that we wanted to truly shine. I did add a pop of brightness to the day with my bridesmaids, with each of them wearing dresses in a different shade of red to represent the colour of love.”
Though their wedding was filled with unexpected twists and turns leading up to the big day—courtesy of COVID rules and regulations—Gabriela and Frédéric say that it ended up being “beyond perfect.” On top of the lovely setting and elegant decor, it was a few traditional elements that made the day really shine.
“The speeches were amazing—our family and friends made us feel so loved and cherished,” says Gabriela. “Our first dance was another moment we both loved so much. In a day that seemed to pass by so quickly, this was an intimate time between us where we held each other and nothing else mattered.”

Gabriela’s dress was a sleek, modern ball gown complete with plunging V-neckline, dramatic low backline and a skirt that had serious swing. To accessorize her look, she amped up the drama with a cathedral-length Mantilla veil.
A two-layer cake decorated with delicate piping and sugar flower details was the star of the couple’s sweet spread. “It was completely perfect in every way,” says Gabriela. “It was amazing to enjoy another taste on our first wedding anniversary.”
“Your wedding is a day that goes by quickly, and it was so important to us to have all the memories captured so we didn’t feel like we missed a minute,” says Gabriela. We loved our photographer, Val, and the amazing, artistic images she captured of our day.”
