13 Stunning Airbnb Wedding Venues for Every Kind of Celebration

If you’re only going to take one thing away from this, let it be that there are some downright incredible Airbnb wedding venues out there. And if the past couple of years have taught us anything about weddings, it’s that you can celebrate your love literally anywhere. Nuptials have taken place at dining room tables, in living rooms, in far-flung destinations where the only guest was an officiant (and maybe a photographer), and in backyards. Micro weddings are having a moment, and, boy, do we hope they’re here to stay. Not only does having a small wedding guest list give you more flexibility on the venue, but it also gives you more freedom to do things your way.

The best Airbnb wedding venues can be found in just about any city in the world. We pulled together our favorites in North America—from Chicago and Joshua Tree to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and Ontario—to get your wedding planning started. Whether you’re planning a more traditional wedding, or you’re looking to treat your loved ones to an entire wedding experience (private chef or a day-after hike, anyone?), there are private Airbnb rentals waiting to set the scene for your special day.

Who knows, the perfect spot to make it official may be even closer than you think. Read on to learn more about 13 places you can book for your elopement, wedding day, destination wedding, backyard wedding, and more.

Things to consider when choosing an Airbnb wedding venue

Before we jump into the best Airbnb wedding venues, let’s go over some of the basics. Unlike more traditional wedding venues, Airbnbs likely won’t come with someone who’s there to help with on-site logistics or other amenities like tons of chairs or tables. If you’re opting for an intimate wedding with a small guest list, this may not be an issue. If you’re expecting a crowd for your wedding ceremony, it’s best to anticipate getting additional seating through a furniture rental company.

The beauty of an Airbnb wedding is that you aren’t forced into hiring any specific catering company for your dinner (something that some venues require when you sign an event contract). You could hire a private chef, bring in takeout from your favorite restaurant, host a potluck, or even take on the dinner prep yourself (or assign the task to the home chef in your wedding party).

And if you don’t hire a wedding planner, make sure to scout out the Airbnb in advance (at least before picture-taking time) to find the best photo locations. Better yet, ask a loved one to be in charge of creating a photo opp list, complete with who should be in each shot. This will save you stress in the moments you’re supposed to be enjoying the most.

What is Airbnb’s rule on parties and weddings?

The first thing you will want to do is be completely upfront with the Airbnb host that you’re planning to have your wedding in the space. There are some Airbnb rentals that are more accommodating for celebrations like this, and if you plan on having a get-together with a substantial guest list, you’ll want to seek out a listing that leans more event space than living quarters. Look for a large rental—like a barn or a city loft—if you’re heading in this direction.

In August 2020, Airbnb enacted a party ban for all listings, including a capacity limit of 16 guests for each rental (you can read more about this here). They have since codified this ban in an effort to protect the homes from damage and the surrounding neighborhood from noise. That being said, there is no specific language around weddings. It’s safe to say you should look elsewhere if you’re planning an all-out rager, but if you’re looking for a quiet wedding with a handful of guests, Airbnb has options.
