Fans of Channel 4’s Gogglebox have rushed to social media with warm messages after Dave and Shirley Griffiths shared it was their wedding anniversary.

The happy couple revealed they were celebrating 47 years of marriage together, taking to Instagram to share a touching tribute.

Uploading a photo of the pair sporting smiles by the pool, Dave wrote: “Happy anniversary to my lovely wife 47years she deserves a medal.” And it didn’t take fans long to congratulate the couple on their celebrations.

One wrote: “Happy anniversary both lots of love,” while another added: “Congratulations to a lovely couple!!! Hope to see you Friday night xx.”

A third went on: “Happy Anniversary,” while a fourth exclaimed: “Aw Happy Anniversary to you both, hope you have a lovely day! Xxx.” Someone else added: “Yeah you both do. But your both a lovely couple. Happy 47th Anniversary. Love Jilly,” while another fan put it: “Congratulations and happy anniversary to you both. Here’s to many more happy years together. We celebrated 47 years in October. x.”

Caerphilly couple Dave and Shirley joined the Channel 4 staple back in 2015, after they were spotted by a casting agents. Outside of their appearances with the show, Dave works as a factory cleaner while his wife has a career in retail.

They have two grown up children in Gemma and Simon, last month singing the latter’s praise for taking on the 13-mile Cardiff run. Sharing a snap of their boy sporting his running gear, the couple wrote: “Our son Simon running in the Cardiff 13k, he’s trained so hard well done but go and smash it.”

Sharing his completion time – the account said: “1 hour and 36mins 20k he’s happy xx,” with a fan replying: “Blimey that’s a great time. He obviously put in a lot of training. He can relax now.”
