Jenna Bush Hager forced to apologize after very awkward on-air moment with Hoda Kotb
Hoda Kotb was left squirming on Wednesday morning after her cohost, Jenna Bush Hager, mentioned a rather awkward topic live on air.
During the latest episode of Today With Hoda & Jenna, the duo were discussing the micro wedding trend, and Jenna couldn’t resist bringing up Hoda’s 2005 wedding to University of New Orleans tennis coach, Burzis Kanga.
‘There is a new trend in weddings and it’s all about micro weddings, small weddings, tiny weddings,’ mother-of-two Hoda, who is leaving the Today show next month, began.
‘They are growing in popularity because I think people don’t want to spend a ton of money on the party and then afterwards with the bills.’
Jenna then blurted out: ‘And also, I mean, if you look back think about who was at your first wedding…,’ but Hoda looked rather unimpressed with her comment and said: ‘Why do you do that?’
‘I’m sorry!’ Jenna quickly apologized, before adding: ‘Well, your only wedding! But when you think about it, weren’t there some people who you were like…,’ as Hoda butted in: ‘I did a destination wedding.’
‘So it was small?’ Jenna probed, as her cohost replied: ‘It wasn’t small, but it wasn’t huge.’
Referring to her May 2008 wedding to Henry Hager, Jenna said: ‘Mine wasn’t small, but it wasn’t huge and there still were people that I loved but haven’t stayed friends with.’

Hoda then said: ‘The whole thing about bearing witness to like a great moment, you want your family and some people have big families. You can’t have a micro wedding if you have a big family, you’re not allowed, people gotta come!’
Jenna then mentioned her own mom and dad, former US President George W. Bush and wife Laura, as she said: ‘Although I think my parents had a micro wedding and my dad has a big family.’
‘Yeah but my mom has a small family. I mean, they had 30 people,’ she added, as Hoda replied: ‘I think that’s micro-ish.’
Asking Hoda about her future wedding plans, Jenna then said: ‘Would you like to have a small wedding or a large wedding, one day?’
Hoda paused for a second before she replied: ‘When that day comes, errrrr probably small.’
Jenna then told her: ‘Don’t forget about me! Don’t move on to your health and wellness and invite all your gurus and forget about me, okay?’
Hoda married Burzis in 2005, but their union ended in divorce in 2008.
The television host is yet to walk down the aisle again but she was engaged to financier Joel Schiffman from November 2019 until January 2022.

Back in August, Hoda opened up about her split from her partner of eight years during an appearance on The Jamie Kern Lina Show and said: ”Joel is one of the best people I know, and he really is a great human being.
‘And I feel like I’m a pretty great human being, but sometimes two great human beings together isn’t quite enough to make it work.’
She cryptically added, ‘I think when people are growing at two different paces it’s hard to be in sync.’
Hoda also admitted that she was more than confident that she’d find her special person soon.
‘When I close my eyes and I envision the romantic part of my life, I can see it very clearly,’ she shared.
‘Because for the first time in my life I am me. Someone is meeting me. Not the version that you might want, or not the version that I’ll twist a little bit to fit your needs or what is appealing to you.
‘This is who I am, and I feel like once you get there your heart rests. You’re like, “Oh, this is what it feels like.” So when I close my eyes and see it, I see it.’
