Opening day of CBD wedding venue the best of owner’s life
A local venue owner has celebrated the opening of his new wedding venue in Geelongâs CBD by tying the knot there.
The brand new Anabelas, a function space specialising in weddings, has been set up in a former Shorts Place fabric shop.
Owner Tom Ward was the first to test out the space, with his wedding taking place on opening day on Saturday.
“It was touch and go, but the venue just got over the line,” Mr Ward said.

“Originally we were going to (have the wedding) at Eureka, and then we came across this opportunity and thought ‘great wedding space, let’s push hard and get it done for our wedding.”
“Everyone’s pulled together.”
Work began on the new space in December, with the wedding day the deadline.
The space is across from the Eureka Hotel, a business also owned by Mr Ward.
The building is highlighted by its exposed brick frontage and walls inside, as well as large industrial fireplace.

The front area is a bar, which opens into the main function hall with a capacity of 250.
While the space can be catered by Eureka, the back of the building backs onto Moorabool St and can be used as a kitchen.
Up a spiral staircase above this area is a private bridal suite, that when finished will feature a balcony which overlooks the hall.
“It’s the only wedding venue that’s centrally located,” Mr Ward said.
“It’s the only one in the CBD, and the natural beauty of the building is incredible.”
The venue isn’t just for weddings, but can also cater for corporate events and other functions.
